Welcome to PS 9!

PS 9 is an open choice elementary school with a strong focus on the arts. The PTA at PS 9 is committed to encouraging parents to use their "VOICE" (Vision, Opportunity, Independence, Collaboration, Expression) to create meaningful opportunities for students, staff and families.
As a result, we provide a variety of school, community and family activities that not only engage children and families, but build a community as well.
We look forward to providing our families with many meaningful opportunities throughout the school-year.

Welcome to PS 9!

Parent Coordinator

Welcome back to a new school year.  I hope you all had a safe and wonderful summer.  I'd like to take a moment to quickly introduce myself. My name is Lisa Calabrese and I am the Parent Coordinator  at PS 9.  Also, with two children attending the school, I'm looking forward to greeting familiar faces as well as welcoming new one's.

As we gear up for another exciting school year, I'm excited to serve as a resource to all of our PS 9 Families. As background, the Parent Coordinator position was created by the New York City Department of Education to encourage and promote active involvement by parents and/or guardians in their children's education.

Parent involvement is an essential part in making PS 9 a productive learning environment and a great place for your children to grow and learn.  Towards this end, in my role as Parent Coordinator I will look to:
  • Support a welcoming school environment for all families and children.
  • Work with Mrs. Marco and Faculty members to address any family issues and concerns at PS 9.
  • Conduct outreach to help families further engage in their child's education.
  • Further strengthen family involvement in school activities.
In some cases, I will not be the specific person that resolves your concerns/questions, however, I will be available to you to help direct and facilitate communication between the school and your home, and offer potential steps on how to proceed.

Please note that when addressing concerns about your child's progress, your first contact should be with your child's classroom teacher.

I can be reached by calling the school 718-876-4610 or via email Calabrese@ps9si.org.

Remember "Your concern is my concern!"
