Welcome to PS 9!

PS 9 is an open choice elementary school with a strong focus on the arts. The PTA at PS 9 is committed to encouraging parents to use their "VOICE" (Vision, Opportunity, Independence, Collaboration, Expression) to create meaningful opportunities for students, staff and families.
As a result, we provide a variety of school, community and family activities that not only engage children and families, but build a community as well.
We look forward to providing our families with many meaningful opportunities throughout the school-year.

Welcome to PS 9!

Chili Cook Off

Our chili cook off was a crowd favorite during last year's Pumpkin Smash. If you have a great recipe, if you're the family's go-to chili connoisseur, then this is the event for you!

Pumpkin Smash

PS 9 will be hosting its 2nd Annual Pumpkin Smash city wide event, taking place on November 7th from 11 am to 3 pm at our school! This is a borough-wide event that all schools and community members are invited to. We will be partnering with the NYC Compost Project hosted by Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden to celebrate our garden program, keep hundreds of pounds of compostable material out of landfills, and provide compost education to our families and the greater community.

During Pumpkin Smash, you and your children are invited to bring your left over halloween pumpkins for smashing, launch pumpkins with our custom made catapult, create crafts and works of art, get your face painted, enjoy bouncy houses and slides, play carnival games, and enjoy refreshments--including our chili cook off! This will be a wonderful event and we hope all our families (and their friends) will be able to come and enjoy!

Family Fun Night

Autism Walk

Harvest Days

PS 9 has partnered with Garden to Cafe, a program of the NYC Department of Education, Office of School Food, and a partner in Grow to Learn, the Citywide School Garden Initiative. The program connects school gardening and school lunch through seasonal harvest events and educational activities.

We are excited to be one of few city schools chosen by Garden to Cafe to participate in a new pilot program, which brings harvest events to our school multiple times throughout the year.  Our first "harvest day" will take place on Friday, October 16th, during the school day, when Garden to Cafe staff will integrate school gardening with school lunch. Although this is NOT a family event, we encourage you use this as an opportunity to talk with your children about healthy lifestyle choices in regards to food and nutrition.
